At about 1800 m of wall height, the east face of the Südspitze is the highest rock face in the Eastern Alps. Its easiest route is the Berchtesgadener Weg, found in 1947 by Josef Aschauer and Hellmuth Schuster: an 80 m long passage and a few short sections of third-grade difficulty, otherwise easy rock (I to II) and walking terrain. In the upper part of the wall stands a bivouac shelter at 2380 m. From the Südspitze the route leads over the Watzmanngrat to the Mittelspitze and the Hocheck, down to the Watzmannhaus (1930 m) on the Falzköpfl, via the Falzalm to the Kührointalm (1420 m) and down into the village of Königssee.

Peaks around the Watzmann-Ostwand

The Südspitze (2712 m), formerly Schönfeldspitze, was first climbed by Peter Karl Thurwieser in 1832 via the Schönfeld. The highest summit is the Mittelspitze (2713 m), first ascended in August 1800 by Valentin Stanič, plus the Hocheck (2651 m). The east face was first climbed in 1881 by Johann Grill, the Kederbacher, with Otto Schück. The relief also includes the Kleine Watzmann, also called Watzmannfrau (2307 m), the Watzmannkinder (up to 2270 m) and the Grünstein (1304 m).

Relief Watzmann-Ostwand: data

Track: the route as a colored, raised line on the relief

Data basis: LiDAR elevation data for the Berchtesgaden Alps

Relief: 3D print in PLA, a bio-based polymer made mostly from renewable raw materials

Base: solid wood, oiled, choice of oak or Swiss stone pine

Sizes: 10x10, 15x15, 20x20, 25x25 and 28x28 cm

Version: Base to stand on a shelf or table, or Wall for hanging; price depends on size, version and wood

Manufacturing: handmade in Bavaria, alpen-werk logo engraved in the base, optional custom engraving

Watzmann-Ostwand as a gift

The line of this relief leads through the east face via the Berchtesgadener Weg to the Südspitze; it is given to mountaineers after the climb and to guests at the Königssee.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0639/5946/6196/files/RT-01049_v6_Camera010_BASE_Eiche_Hellgrau.jpg?v=1787023798
